Two Utah students advanced as far as the second round during the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., this week but did not make it to the third.
Ben Lobrot from Heber City and Kunal Sah from Price fell short in the written round when they didn't earn enough points to advance.
About 275 spellers competed this week. The winner will go home with more than $42,000 in cash and prizes.
The Sun Advocate and Emery County Progress in Price sponsored Sah, a seventh-grader from Green River, and the (Provo) Daily Herald sponsored Lobrot, an eighth-grader from Heber.
