The State Board of Education on Thursday picked up an old and a new member.
Denis Morrill, who served on the board from 1999-2004, has returned to the board by governor appointment. The Taylorsville resident replaces Gary Swensen, who resigned in April because of frustration in trying to make headway for public school children. The men have traded places before; Swensen was appointed to the board when Morrill left to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Cyndee L. Miya also was sworn in as a representative of the Coalition of Minorities Advisory Committee. She will serve as a non-voting member as do two Utah Board of Regents members and offer insight to board discussions. Miya, the Davis School District's elementary staff development coordinator, is the first CMAC member to be sworn in as a non-voting member on the state school board.
