From Deseret News archives:
TV releases range from 'Joey' to 'Judy Garland'
"Numb3rs: The Complete First Season" (CBS/Paramount, 2004-05, not rated, $68.99, four discs). In its first season, this show about using mathematical equations to solve murders had a couple of things going for it that the recent second season lacked the down-to-earth Sabrina Lloyd and David Krumholtz with hair that didn't make him look like a gorgon. Krumholtz is a socially retarded math wiz who works with his FBI-agent brother Rob Morrow, while Judd Hirsch is their wisdom-dispensing father. (The second season was also good, but I miss Lloyd, who just disappears from the last few episodes in this set.)
Extras: Widescreen, 13 episodes, unaired pilot, audio commentaries, featurettes, bloopers, optional English subtitles, chapters.
"Joey: The Complete First Season" (Warner, 2005-06, not rated, $39.98, four discs). Matt LeBlanc stars as dumb-but-lovable actor Joey Tribbiani, who moves to Los Angeles to build his acting career in this sitcom, a spinoff of "Friends." Hardly inspired, way too many sex gags but with occasional laughs.
"Night Stalker: The Complete Series" (Touchstone, 2005, not rated, $29.99, two discs). Weak attempt to copy the old series (and cross it with "The Fugitive" and "The X Files") about a newspaper reporter encountering monsters. Includes four episodes that never aired.
Extras: Widescreen, 10 episodes, audio commentaries, deleted scenes, featurettes, chapters; DVD-Rom applications (unproduced scripts).
"The Doris Day Show: Season 3" (MPI, 1970-71, not rated, $39.98, four discs).
"The Doris Day Special" (MPI, 1971, not rated, $14.98). The third season of Day's gentle, amusing sitcom has the single mother leaving the farm to continue working for a magazine in the city. McLean Stevenson and Rose Marie co-star, and the bonus features are as much fun as the show. Van Johnson is a guest star; a young Meredith Baxter stars in a pilot from Day's production company.
The "Special" is Day's first TV musical outing, performing her hits, teaming up with Perry Como and movie pal Rock Hudson.
Extras: Full frame, 26 episodes, new interviews, commercials with cast members, bloopers, trailers, promos (all on "The Doris Day Show" only), chapters.
