LDS Church President Gordon B. Hinckley is scheduled to speak at a fireside in Iowa City, Iowa, commemorating the 150th anniversary of the handcart pioneers. The Handcart Pioneer Commemoration Fireside will be broadcast over the church satellite system, BYU Television and KBYU-TV on Sunday, June 11, at 6 p.m. MDT.
A notice on the church's Web site www.lds.org says those with a broadband Internet connection and a Windows operating system can watch the broadcast via computer at www.byu.tv.
The meeting is the finale for a three-day celebration sponsored in part by the church and Brigham Young University to be held in Iowa City June 9-11, featuring scholarly presentations and family events commemorating the overland journey of thousands of early LDS converts who set out from that locale beginning in 1856 to cross the Great Plains to Salt Lake City.
