FARMINGTON — Residents attending a Thursday open house overwhelmingly said they support a 70-acre development planned for west Farmington.

More than 100 residents attended the open house, where plans for commuter rail and the Legacy Parkway were also on display. The development, Station Park, is proposed to be centered around the Farmington commuter rail station and the intersection where Legacy, I-15 and Highway 89 will all merge.

"That land is going to be developed and I think its best that it be done this way," said resident Marcus Sommer after reviewing site plans for Station Park. "I'd rather have it be open space, but if it's going to be developed, it should be this way."

Station Park is planed to have a mixture of eclectic shops, a movie theater, offices and housing. A continuous trail and little plazas will dot the project, said Fred Bruning, president of CenterCal Properties LLC.

Bruning's company was announced Thursday as the new lead developer for the project. Farmington resident Rich Haws was the primary developer before Bruning. He owns much of the land where the project will be.

Within the next six months, Bruning hopes to have retailers signed on to the project. Construction should be completed by 2008, he said.
