Salt Lake City artist Robert D. McFarland will be one of 8 artists featured in "Special Series: Watercolor and Pastel" in the June issue of Southwest Art. McFarland works exclusively in watercolor and is represented by El Prado Gallery in Sedona, Ariz.
Salt Lake City's public art program announces a transitional public art project in downtown Salt Lake, funded by the Redevelopment Agency of Salt Lake City. The project, called "Flying Objects," will commission new, temporary sculptures by Utah artists to be placed in various locations for two to three years. To be considered and for more information, call 596-5000. Deadline for submitting scale models and accompanying materials is June 3.
Bad Dog Rediscovers America, 35 S. 600 West, will host an open house on Friday evening from 5-8. The art school for kids will be moving soon to a better location. Please RSVP to Bobbi, 322-3816.
The Museum of Art, Brigham Young University, announces a call for papers to be presented at the Biennial Art, Belief, Meaning Symposium, 2006. The theme is, "Pious Pictures: Christian Iconography and Personal Expression in the Production of Faith-Based Art." For proposal requirements and more information call 422-8289 or 422-5323. Proposal deadline is Sept. 30. The Symposium will be held Thursday, Nov. 16.
Art Access (a program of VSA arts of Utah) is hosting six 12-hour art workshops for teens with and without special needs. Each workshop is taught by a professional artist whose work is being exhibited at Art Access Gallery. The workshops are limited to 13 students and there is a $10 registration fee (which can be reduced or waived based on need). Art supplies will be provided by VSA arts of Utah. Interested students should contact the gallery at 328-0703 or visit www.accessart.org for a schedule and registration form.
Beth Krensky, assistant professor in the University of Utah's Department of Art and Art History, has been selected to show part of her installation, "Seifirot," in the Rocky Mountain Biennial 2006 at the Fort Collins Museum of Contemporary Art in Fort Collins, Colo.
The Museum of Contemporary Art/Denver broke ground May 1 on its $15 million 27,000-square-foot facility. The architect was David Adjaye, whose recent work includes the Nobel Peace Center in Oslo, Norway. The MCA will open in the summer of 2007.
