"Many elementary teachers lack the resources needed to adequately adapt the visual arts into their curriculum," Hallett said. "Art-in-a-Box provides all of the tools necessary to integrate art into a teacher's existing lesson plans."

Since its inception in 2004, the program has served more than 9,000 students in 25 districts, Hallett said. The program is geared for second- to fourth-grade students, but she has presented it for kindergarten through sixth-graders. For more information, visit UMFA's Web site, www.umfa.utah.edu.

Hallett enjoys the chance to be with the children and see their creativity.

"I like the interaction with the kids," she said. "The printmaking box has a high rate of satisfaction with the kids. Even kids uncomfortable with drawing end up surprised and impressed with what they made."
