A "Generacion Floreciente" (Flourishing Generation) day at the Sugar House Barnes and Noble, 2236 S. 1300 East, this Saturday will help fund Hispanic mother/daughter programs that help introduce Latino mothers and daughters to higher education.
The event also will benefit the Libros bookstore program, which helps children buy books at minimal prices. Both programs were created by Salt Lake educator Barbara Lovejoy.
The program includes an 11 a.m. workshop on bilingual literacy, a 1 p.m. bilingual story time, a 4 p.m. announcement of essay contest winners and a 6 p.m. panel discussion.
The event will also feature drawings for prizes, performances of Latino music by a children's choir, and a Latino-heritage photo display throughout the entire store. A wish-list table will allow people to donate a book directly to Generacion Floreciente.
