Utah students win multiple awards

Thirteen Utah students brought home awards and scholarships, including full scholarships and a trip to the Nobel ceremony in Sweden, from the May Intel International Science & Engineering Fair.

The fair, held in Indianapolis earlier this month, involved nearly 1,500 students from 47 countries, regions and territories.

The Utah winners are:

• American Fork senior Shannon L. Babb, second place, Geological Society of America: $750; First Award: $500; Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry Award: $500; National Ground Water Association Award: $200; North American Benthological Society first place Grand Award, Environmental Science: $3,000; Glenn T. Seaborg Nobel Trip Prize: trip to the Nobel ceremony in Sweden.

• Northern Utah Academy for Math Engineering and Science junior Andrew Allen Gilbert, first place, Drexel University: Full-tuition scholarship valued at $105,000.

• Woods Cross junior Lindsey Marie Hubley, first place, Oregon State University: tuition scholarship of $5,000 per year for four years; third place Grand Award, Biochemistry: $1,000

• American Fork senior Jeff K. Bean, fourth place, American Chemical Society: $1,000; third place Grand Award, Chemistry: $1,000

• West junior Charles Cumberland McGuire and seniors Lai Xue and Gleb Kuznetsov, third place Grand Award, Team Projects: $1,000 each.

• Hillcrest sophomores Emmanouel Georgiou Liodakis and Xavier Jeremy Falco, third place Grand Award, Team Projects: $1,000 each.

• Fremont sophomore Megan Moulding, fourth place Grand Award, Environmental Science: $500.

• Christian Heritage junior Samantha Kay Lawrence, fourth place Grand Award, Chemistry: $500.

• Carbon senior Nicole Marie Hovat, second place, Society of Exploration Geophysicists: $400.
