PARKER HAYCOCK, Brighton: This senior fullback has been a steady defender throughout the season, and he recently helped the Bengals' boys soccer team etch itself into the state record book.

Top-ranked Brighton thrashed No. 3 Layton 4-0 lFriday, which was the Bengals' 16th shutout this season. That broke the previous state record. Also, Brighton tied a state record for consecutive shutouts at 10.

Haycock, along with the rest of Brighton's defense, has been in great form throughout Brighton's streak.

"He's been consistent for us all year long," said coach Russ Boyer.

Additionally, the senior recently received a prestigious appointment to attend Air Force Academy. He will play on the soccer team.

CASSIDIE LUND, Manti: This senior catcher led her team to a region title and second state championship by just working hard.

"I think the example she set inspired the team to work hard," said Manti coach Steve Lund. "She's serious about softball, and she's very dedicated to working hard."

The two-sport star was also a captain of the volleyball team and with a 3.97, she was Academic All-State and she finished her first year of college. She had a solid arm and could make the throw to second from her knees if she needed to.

"She is a solid catcher and a good base runner," said Lund, who is also her dad. "She's pretty strong."

A skilled player, her intensity for the game and affection for her teammates helped make her one of the best catchers in the classification.
