A Utah Highway Patrol trooper and another driver escaped serious injury Wednesday when their cars collided.
A trooper was responding to a report of debris in the road on I-15 near 7500 South about 5 a.m., said UHP trooper Jeff Nigbur.
Just as the trooper approached tree branches that were in the road, he turned on his overhead lights to slow down traffic, he said.
A driver in the lane next to him apparently overreacted at the sight of the debris and trooper and swerved into the officer's car.
"They're both pretty lucky," he said. "The vehicles are in pretty bad shape. There's a lot of substantial property damage."
Both men walked away with minor cuts and bruises.
