Extras: Full frame, 13 episodes, deleted scenes, subtitle options (English, French), chapters.
"The 4400: The Complete Second Season" (CBS/Paramount, 2005, not rated, $42.99, four discs). Disparate people from various countries and time periods over the past century have been abducted by aliens. But now they are back on Earth; none have aged and some have strange powers. How will they change the world?
That's the premise here, and the emphasis is on character in this excellent, thoughtful cable-TV sci-fi series, with Billy Campbell and Peter Coyote heading the ensemble cast.
In this season, it's now a year later and government agencies are still trying to figure things out . . . and yes, there are bad guys among them.
Extras: Full frame, 12 episodes, audio commentary, featurettes, optional English subtitles, chapters.
If it sounds like "Hoodwinked," it is, only without the stiff computer animation. This one has stiff hand-drawn animation. But it's occasionally amusing in its silliness. Kids will probably enjoy it.
Extras: Full frame, five episodes, chapters. ("Case Files #2" through "#5" are also available individually, or all five, with 26 episodes, in a box set, $19.98.)
"Saturday Night Live: The Best of Cheri Oteri" (Universal, 1995-2000, not rated, $19.98).
"Saturday Night Live: The Best of Commercial Parodies" (Universal, 1975-2006, not rated, $19.98). The first is strictly for Oteri fans, along with the expected "SNL" regulars of the period, and guest stars Cameron Diaz, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Tobey Maguire and Britney Spears, among others.
The second was a 2000 TV special with a variety of the show's TV-commercial parodies, hosted by Will Ferrell (who is also in more of these skits than anyone else). Very hit and miss and sometimes way too raunchy with appearances by John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, Gilda Radner, Eddie Murphy, Mike Myers, David Spade, Chris Farley, Chris Rock, etc., and guest stars Ashton Kutcher, Donald Trump, Sam Waterston, Queen Latifah, Kelly Ripa, Ben Affleck, Jessica Simpson and even Sen. John McCain.
