The Utah Center for the Book announced winners of the Utah Book Award at the Utah Library Association conference in St. George.
The winners are:
Nonfiction: "Eating Stone: Imagination and the Loss of the Wild" ,by Ellen Meloy
Fiction: "Rain in the Valley," by Helen Papanikolas
Children's/Young Adult: "Princess Academy," by Shannon Hale
Poetry: "In All Their Animal Brilliance," by Lance Larsen
Shannon Hale, winner in the Children's/Young Adult category is a previous Utah Book Award winner. "Princess Academy," her winning book this year, was a finalist for the Newbery Award.
Two of the winning authors, Ellen Meloy and Helen Papanikolas, are deceased.
The Utah Center for the Book is based at the Salt Lake City Library.
