Envision Utah on Tuesday honored 10 planning, development and conservation projects across the state for being designed around principles of "quality growth."

Four projects received awards of excellence, the top award. Six more projects received awards of merit. The award winners were selected for their "creativity, community spirit and market savvy," Envision Utah said. Merit winners include the new Moab city building, and the Utah Clean Cities coalition, which has tried to reduce the amount of petroleum that people use.

The projects that won awards of excellence were:

• The Corner Canyon preservation area in Draper. Residents in 2004 voted to approve a $7 million bond to help purchase Corner Canyon, located between Traverse Ridge and the Wasatch Range.

• Magna Main Street. The city changed zoning regulations and eliminated some parking requirements to help revitalize its Main Street. Ten-foot-wide sidewalks and more lighting were added, and street design was enhanced.

• The Scowcroft Building in Ogden. This long-vacant building was restored. It is part of an overall plan to revitalize Ogden's downtown and has nearby bus access.

• Wasatch Choices 2040. Envision Utah joined with two planning groups, the Wasatch Front Regional Council and Mountain Land Association of Governments to create a long-range transportation and land-use plan for the valley.
