Utah's Judicial Conduct Commission has asked the Utah Supreme Court to publicly reprimand 7th District Judge Bruce Halliday, but reasons for requesting the rare action remain confidential.

Halliday was unavailable for comment Tuesday.

The Judicial Conduct Commission investigates complaints of judicial misconduct and take a variety of actions that include dismissing the complaint, dismissing it with a warning or asking the Utah Supreme Court to issue a public reprimand.

Halliday, who has previously worked as a lawyer in private practice and also was the San Juan County Attorney, was appointed to the Seventh Circuit Court in 1987 and became a district court judge in 1992. The 7th District serves Carbon, Emery, Grand and San Juan counties.
