A Mexican congressional commission gave final approval Wednesday for President Vicente Fox's visit to Salt Lake City, Seattle and Sacramento.
The vote, 30-0, with three abstentions gave final approval for the May 23-27 visit.
Salt Lake Mexican Consul Salvador Jimenez said the news cements Fox's visit. "We will have the president here next Tuesday," Jimenez said. "It is very, very good news."
The congressional approval came with a request that Fox address immigration during his visit, said Joe Reyna, chairman of the Utah Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. "They requested of him to speak about immigration, how to create a legal flow of immigration and to talk to the local authorities about human rights and the protection of workers."
