WEST JORDAN — Bingham and Riverton swept both the boys and girls Region 3 track meets, and the two schools plus the Copper Hills girls will prepare for the state meet today and Saturday.

Bingham won the boys competition with a score of 201 to Riverton's 148.5, but the Silverwolves won the girls side with a score of 182 to Bingham's 139. No other schools finished better than third.

Riverton head coach Brent Hawkins said even though he thinks his team will do well at state, it was concentrating more on the regional meet.

"We have more control over this meet," he said. "It's more of a team meet.

"The state meet is all about the stars."

Bingham head coach Jeff Arbogast said a second-place finish for his girls team doesn't mean it won't perform well at state.

"The first time Bingham won a championship, it lost at regionals," he said.

"Going into state, we like both teams."

Arbogast said the boys team doesn't quite stack up against Davis — who he considers to be the state favorite — but he thinks it can give the Darts a run for their money.

"They match us in distance and relays, but we're ahead in sprints," he said. "But in throws, they're ahead of us by an unbeatable margin. Our biggest shotputter is 5'11", 165 pounds."

The Miners won all three boys relay races and nearly swept the 200-meter dash, placing runners first through fifth. Dan Workman won the 200 and finished second in the 100. Devan Antczak also accumulated 22 points in three distance events.

LaChere Anglin won both the 100- and 200-meter dashes for the Bingham girls and was also on the winning 4x100 and medley relays. Kim Quinn also finished first in the 800-, 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs.

For Riverton, Sarah Blad finished first in both the 100- and 300-meter hurdles. The Silverwolves also had the top four finishers in the long jump.

For the boys, Javier Sanchez was the only athlete to place first in two events, winning the discus and javelin throws.

The Copper Hills girls finished third with 92 points. The Wolverines won the 4x400 relay, and Brittany Waldron won both the shot put and discus.
