GRANTSVILLE A male student at Grantsville High School was hospitalized Friday at Mountain West Medical Center in Tooele after being bitten by a baby rattlesnake, allegedly dropped on the school grounds by a group of at least three teenagers.
The rattlesnake was one of seven said to be caught by the teenagers and dropped on the school grounds on April 29, said Sgt. Steve Barrett with the Grantsville Police Department. The student, a senior, apparently saw the snake at school Friday, picked it up and was bitten.
The police department plans to file reckless endangerment charges against the alleged perpetrators. The Utah Department of Fish and Game may also file similar charges, Barrett said. Police have recovered at least five of the seven rattlesnakes, he said.
