Help fight breast cancer by participating in the 10th Annual Komen Salt Lake City Race for the Cure. More than 14,000 people will unite on Saturday at The Gateway, 400 W. South Temple, to raise funds for breast cancer research and treatment.

"An estimated 1,200 Utah women are currently fighting breast cancer, and 230 Utah women will die from the disease this year," said Ellen Thorp, Race for the Cure chairwoman. "Breast cancer has been a bully for far too long. It is time to join the fight by participating in the race and helping raise funds for education, research, screening and treatment."

Since the first race in 1997, the Salt Lake City race has raised more than $2.5 million, Thorp said, and 75 percent of those funds stay in Utah. The remaining 25 percent goes to the national Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation Research Program.

Participants can register online at www.komenslc.org. Those interested can also register by picking up entry forms at The Gateway, Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Utah, all participating Ford dealers, McDonalds, Smith's Food stores, Great Harvest Bread, New Balance running store, Chevron stations, Wasatch Running Co., Salt Lake Running Co., Coldwater Creek, Dillard's and the YWCA.

The race committee encourages participants to register in teams of five or more to register as a team. Individual participants can pre-register at a free health and information expo in the Union Pacific Depot at The Gateway May 11-12 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The health expo will feature many vendors and exhibits and will continue with additional sponsor booths on race day May 13 from 8-11 a.m. Address email questions to teams@komenslc.org.
