Carole H. Harris, retired Brockbank Junior High principal and a 30-year educator, will replace Rob McDaniel as chief of the newly revamped Granite High School, an opt-in school envisioned to offer a regular high school curriculum plus arts and career "academies."

Granite assistant superintendent Kevin Hague characterized Harris as student-centered and visionary. He lauded her work to reform Brockbank Junior High, from which she retired a year ago, into the district's first true middle school.

"She really has a proven track record and really does have the confidence of our school board, and those are significant things," Hague said.

"We need someone, and she has certainly demonstrated that by her past experience (she) has the ability to be a great public relations person for the vision of Granite High School, and she possesses great salesmanship in her ability to help students and the public, community, understand what a great place this is and can continue to be."

Harris worked seven years as Brockbank principal. She also has worked as assistant principal at Kearns High and Olympus Junior High. She taught business and computer classes at Cyprus High School for nearly 20 years.

McDaniel, former Granite Park Middle School principal who took the Granite High job just months ago, has accepted a job as Murray School District director of personnel and student services, effective this summer.
