LDS update after quake
The news release late Wednesday said the faith's temple in Nuku'alofa, Tonga, "did not sustain any damage. While reports are incomplete, there have been no reports of damage to other Church buildings." The church has approximately 52,000 members in Tonga.
There was no word about LDS members or missionaries in New Zealand, Fiji or Hawaii. Early reports from monitoring agencies said the quake could spawn a tsunami that may reach one or more of those locations, but the warning was later canceled.
