SPANISH FORK Alli Bramwell did it again. And this time it secured a Region 4 title as Timpanogos defeated Spanish Fork 3-0 Tuesday afternoon.
The Timpanogos ace threw her eighth straight shutout and her 54th straight shutout inning, which is a state team record. If Bramwell can toss another shutout inning in the first against Pleasant Grove on Thursday, she'll break the state individual record.
"I've never met a pitcher that has a work ethic that Alli does," said Timpanogos pitching coach Tim Hill. "She throws 180 pitches every day and never misses a practice. We can't get her off the practice field. Combine that with her talent, and this is what you get."
Ever since league competition started, Bramwell has been unstoppable. She tossed eight strikeouts in her no-hitter against one of the toughest hitting teams in the state in the Dons. She only allowed three total runners with a walk, a hit batter and a teammate's error. Only one made it as far as second base. And she finished things off with three up three down in the bottom of the seventh against some of the best hitters in the state.
"It was their three, four and five batters, so I knew I had to come up and throw hard. I didn't want to give them anything good. It helped that our defense was strong today, so that gave me a lot of confidence," said Bramwell.
Now that the Timberwolves have secured the top spot in league action with an 8-0 record and two games remaining, their new regular-season goals are to just keep the records going.
"Everything's a record now," said Timpanogos head coach Frank Brammal.
But Bramwell doesn't seem overly concerned about the next inning, which would give her that impressive state individual record.
"I'm always nervous before a game, but I really don't keep track of the numbers," she explained.
Meanwhile, teammate shortstop Chelsey Brown was on top of her game both offensively and defensively as she recorded a pair of singles and a double in a game where opposing pitcher Whitney Holm only gave up six hits and one earned run.
"Chelsey brought us through today," said Hill, who added that Brown came to the coaching staff a couple of weeks ago asking them to help her with her swing. "She incorporated everything we told her and has been hitting much better ever since."
Tajia Law picked up a pair of singles in the contest as well, and Megan Bishop scored the earned run on an RBI single by Brown to deep center.
The Dons have wrapped up a second-place finish in Region 4 with a 6-2 record, but even if they win out and the T-Wolves drop their final two games, Timpanogos holds the tiebreaker with two victories over Spanish Fork.
