Bees win 1, lose 1

TACOMA, Wash. — Dallas McPherson belted an opposite-field solo home run in extra innings to give Salt Lake a 4-3 win over the Tacoma Rainiers on Sunday, as the Bees split their doubleheader.

Tacoma won the completion of Saturday's suspended game by rallying with four runs in the bottom of the eighth for a 4-2 win.

Salt Lake led 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh of a scheduled seven-inning game, when the Rainiers tied the game with two out when McPherson, playing first base, lost pitcher Jason Bulger's throw in the sun. McPherson put the Bees back in front in the top of the eighth, as he drilled a pitch from Aaron Looper over the left field wall. Bulger (1-1) worked a scoreless bottom of the eighth for the win. Salt Lake had taken the lead on a bases loaded walk to Curtis Pride and a sacrifice fly by Casey Smith.

Tacoma came back in the eighth inning of the first game, as Adam Jones tied the game on a run-scoring single off Greg Jones and took the lead on an RBI single by Greg Dobbs. Jonathon Rouwenhorst (1-2) took the loss for the Bees.

BEES WAX: The Bees have activated pitcher Kasey Olenberger and sent pitcher Rafael Cruz Chavez to the Single-A Cedar Rapids Kernels. Olenberger, 28, has appeared in four games for Salt Lake and has a 5.87 ERA. Cruz Chavez appeared in five games and has a 11.81 ERA . . . OF Reggie Willits was optioned back to Salt Lake when RHP Chris Bootcheck was called up by the Angels Sunday.
