TACOMA, Wash. Three Tacoma pitchers combined for a one-hitter Friday night, as the Rainiers shutout the Salt Lake Bees 1-0 at Cheney Stadium.
The lone run of the game came in the bottom of the ninth as Jason Bulger (0-1) walked Hunter Brown, who advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on a single to right center by Shin-Soo Choo. It was the first run allowed by Bulger in 11 2/3 innings this season.
The Bees only hit of the game came in the second inning on a bloop single to left by Curtis Pride off veteran starter Kevin Appier, who tossed six shutout innings for the Rainiers. Steven Shell, in his first career Triple A start, pitched eight scoreless innings for Salt Lake and gave up just two hits with eight strikeouts and two walks.
Not only was this the first shutout of the Bees this season, it was the first time that they were held under three runs.
