Free hazardous waste collections in valley

What: Salt Lake County's Household Hazardous Waste Community Collection Events, which are free to homeowners. They take place once a month through September from 7-10 a.m.

Where: Sandy: second Thursday of each month; Sandy Public Works, 8775 S. 700 West

Holladay: third Thursday of each month; Holladay city, 4625 S. 2300 East

Salt Lake City: fourth Thursday of each month; 1800 S. 300 West, at the northwest corner of the Costco parking lot

What are hazardous wastes? They include paint, old fuel, pesticides, antifreeze, oil, herbicides, oven cleaners and mercury, to name a few. Empty containers can be put in your garbage can. These collection sites do not take explosives, ammunition, radioactive material or smoke detectors.
