Provoans to vote on 2 measures June 27

Provoans will vote June 27 on two measures proposed by the Provo School District Board of Education. The first asks for permission to issue $35 million in bonds, and with that, a tax increase until the bonds are repaid. The second measure would authorize a permanent increase in the voter leeway of .00044 percent to generate $1.5 million.

If approved, the bond and leeway increases on a $100,000 house would be $65 over a three-year period.

Bond projects:

Timpanogos Elementary — Replace building, expand property, 2007-08, $11.3 million

Lakeview Elementary — New school in Lakeview neighborhood, 2009 or earlier, $11 million

Centennial Middle — Auditorium, replace portables, 2007, $3.5 million

Sunset View Elementary — Expansion, replace portables, 2007, $2.4 million

Provost Elementary — Replace portables, 2007, $960,000

Westridge Elementary — Music rooms, 2009, $200,000

Provo High School — Major remodeling, 2007-09, $1.6 million

Edgemont, Grandview, Sunset View, Canyon Crest, Wasatch, Westridge, Provost, Rock Canyon elementaries — Energy and seismic projects, 2007-09, $1.7 million

Contingency Fund — $2.3 million

Leeway expenditures

$400,000 — Salaries, benefits for staff at new Lakeview Elementary

$800,000 — Teacher salaries, benefits districtwide

$300,000 — New teachers to reduce classroom sizes.
