Recreational Equipment Inc.'s Sandy store, 230 W. 10600 South, will host Bike Bonanza 2006 on Saturday, April 29, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. in response to recent events involving local cyclists being injured or killed.

Kids will have the opportunity to learn about proper bike safety at the bike rodeo, sponsored by Sandy Police. Navigating their way through the course of cones and signs will earn each child a certificate. Free helmets will be given away to the first 100 youth participants. Cyclists of all ages can also attend one of the eight miniclinics on topics such as basic bike maintenance, bike safety and ride preparation. Free bike inspections by certified REI technicians and bike registration will be offered.

There is no charge for this event.
