Recent allegations of educator misconduct in Utah

Ben C. Newby, 54, charged last week with five counts of felony forcible sexual abuse in connection with a student at Meadow Elementary School in Lehi in 1983. Newby was arrested this month in La Junta, Colo., where he currently teaches. Since he left Utah in 1985, he also has taught in Kansas and Arizona.

Brandy L. Yates, 29, charged March 29 in 7th District Court in Castle Dale with one count of second-degree felony forcible sexual abuse involving a 15-year-old student she taught at San Rafael Junior High in Ferron.

Alan Roy Willey, 51, charged April 5 with nine counts of aggravated forcible sexual abuse of a child. The allegations involve a former fourth-grade boy, now an adult, who was a student of Willey's at Wilson Elementary School in 1994.

Gabriel E. Carlin, 32, a pastor and teacher at East Harbor Christian Academy in Washington County, was booked into the Purgatory Jail in Hurricane on March 14 for investigation of four counts of first-degree felony sexual abuse of a minor involving an 11-year-old student.

Melinda Lee Deluca, 29, is facing two counts of second-degree felony forcible sexual abuse involving a 16-year-old student while Deluca was a teacher at Copper Hills High School.
