10 finalists announced in Entrepreneur Challenge
The finalist teams are:
- Collective Medical Technologies, which formed an Internet service that tracks medical records between facilities.
- Core Footwear, which featured anatomically molded midsoles for outdoor shoes.
- Five Star Painting, which provides a subscription-based service for contractors and accurately estimates needed labor and material for paint jobs.
- KAM Accelerometer Inc., which leverages accelerometer technology to measure an individual's energy usage, acting as a personal trainer.
- Precision Surveying Solutions, which provides a data collection instrument for civil engineers and land surveyors.
- Quantum Building Products, which manufactures building products.
- ResCue Medical Systems, which develops and markets user-friendly systems for CPR training.
- Spectrotek, which markets the Macular Carotenoid Detector, a device used to detect macular degeneration.
- Teleoptic Digital Imaging, which uses digital radiography equipment as an alternative to X-rays.
- Thermacom Inc., which provides an alternative, non-invasive diagnosis of VUR, a condition associated with urinary tract infections.
Each of the finalists will present their businesses to a panel of judges today. The final awards banquet will be Thursday at the University of Utah's Rice-Eccles Stadium Tower.
A cash prize of $40,000 in seed money is awarded to the team that presents the most plausible and promising business plan. Secondary prizes also will be awarded, including cash and in-kind services worth more than $100,000.
