OREM Arthur Henderson, the former police officer accused of shooting his estranged wife's boyfriend before having a shoot-out with Lehi police officers, was found dead in his jail cell early Thursday.
Henderson, a former Lehi officer, had been charged in 4th District Court with five first-degree felony charges of attempted aggravated murder. He also faced one criminal mischief charge, one aggravated assault charge and three charges of unlawful discharge of a firearm all third-degree felonies.
His trial was scheduled to start July 14.
Police say on Jan. 27 Henderson chased Natalie Barnes Henderson and her boyfriend Craig Trimble in their car through a residential neighborhood, firing shots as he drove.
Henderson then rammed couple's car, approached the driver's side and shot Trimble several times.
As Lehi police officers arrived at the scene, Henderson changed his focus and aimed at the officers his former co-workers.
One bullet went through a patrol car's windshield and another went through a nearby car.
Officers took Henderson down with a shot to the knee and foot.
He was being held in the Salt Lake County Metro Jail.
