RSL's Williams not expecting league to act on alleged slur
Knowing that no one was in the vicinity to hear Guevara allegedly called Williams a "monkey" during Saturday's game, Williams doesn't envision any punishment being handed down by the league.
The incident occurred during the second half of Saturday's game, and Williams animatedly reported the situation to the fourth official on the sideline. No action was taken during the game, but Williams confirmed in a post game press conference that a racial slur was uttered.
"It's not like I'm trying to get Amado kicked out of the league," said Williams, "but it's something he said that was totally uncalled for. It's not right, and it never should've been said."
Williams is a native of Jamaica, while Guevara hails from Honduras.
In a Herald News (New Jersey) article on Wednesday, Guevara adamantly denies the allegations, saying that perhaps Williams misunderstood him.
"There's no way I could've misunderstood what he said," said Williams upon hearing about Guevara's comments following Wednesday's training session.
As it stands now, Williams is going to let the league handle the matter, and he's turning his attention to this weekend's match at Houston.
BIG GUN RETURNING: Salt Lake coach John Ellinger confirmed Wednesday that Jason Kreis will indeed be in the starting lineup for this weekend's game at Houston.
Just eight months removed from offseason ACL surgery on his left knee, Kreis entered last Saturday's game as a second-half substitute, and scored the game-tying goal against New York in the 89th minute.
"I think his fitness is there, and it's been there for three months now," said Ellinger. "I think after Saturday, his confidence is up and he can handle it. I think he feels he can go 90 minutes."
Ellinger hasn't quite decided whether he'll start Kreis at striker or midfield, but either way a slight lineup adjustment is inevitable.
Kreis's tally against the Red Bulls was the 101st goal of his career.
READY TO ROLL: RSL defender Carey Talley is expected to be in the starting lineup this weekend.
He left last weekend's game in the second half after injuring his hamstring, and initially team trainers weren't sure about his status for the following week.
In Wednesday's training session, Talley participated in every fitness drill and game, and afterward he wasn't suffering from any lingering effects.
