Nine candidates have applied for a seat on the Clearfield City Council and await job interviews tonight.
Mike LeBaron, Robert Horn, Tab Uno, Jeff Woodall, Mark Shepherd, Cornell Griffeth, Ivan Anderson, Glen Mills and Paul Poorte sent letters of interest to the city by Tuesday evening's deadline.
A council seat became vacant in March when four council members appointed one of their own, Don Wood, as mayor. Wood had been on the council about two years and took the spot of Dan Phelps, who resigned as mayor in February for personal and family reasons, after just seven weeks in office. Phelps had been elected in November.
Four candidates, including Shepherd, were interviewed for the mayor's seat in March. Shepherd also ran for mayor against Phelps in 2005.
The current City Council, made up of Doyle Sprague, Kathryn Murray, Vern Phipps and Marilyn Fryer, plans to interview the nine candidates during a meeting at the city offices at 6 tonight. Each interview will last 10 minutes.
A replacement member of the city council is expected to be appointed Monday during a special council meeting at 6 p.m.
