Brigham Young

VOLLEYBALL: The Cougars fell to Long Beach State for the second consecutive night, losing 3-1 (31-29, 28-30, 27-30, 24-30) Saturday at the Walter Pyramid. BYU is now 18-6 overall and 14-6 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation; the 49ers are 19-9 and 12-8.

"They served harder and more consistently than us," BYU coach Tom Peterson said. "They performed better under pressure and made the right plays at the right time."

Victor Batista led the Cougars with 14 kills and added five blocks, while Yosleyder Cala was the only other BYU player to register double-digit kills with 12. Russell Holmes had a match-high eight blocks.

WOMEN'S TENNIS: The No. 26 BYU Cougars took it down to the final match Saturday, relying on a three-set thriller from Sofia Holden to top New Mexico 4-3 at the BYU Outdoor Tennis Courts. The win moves BYU to 15-6 on the year and 3-2 in conference and places New Mexico at 13-4 with a 4-1 record in conference play.

Weber State

WOMEN'S TENNIS: The Weber State women's tennis team saw its four-match winning streak come to an end with a 5-2 loss to Boise State on Friday, but the 'Cats came back to split the trip with a 4-3 win over the University of Idaho on Saturday at the Appleton Tennis Center.

WSU lost the doubles point in both matches, forcing the Wildcats to garner all their points in singles play.

Against Boise State, the Wildcats got wins from Elana Smit and Gabriela Venditto.

In Saturday's match against the Vandals, the Wildcats rallied in singles behind the play of Smit, Inalise Pienaar, Karla Pretorius and Ashley Schapper.

Utah State

SOFTBALL: Utah State's Amy Schaible hit her first home run of the season, but it was not enough as Nevada completed the three-game sweep over the Aggies with a 5-2 win on Saturday.

USU dropped to 5-25 overall with the loss and 0-5 in the WAC. Nevada improved to 19-23 and 4-2.

SUU

SOFTBALL: SUU shut out Centenary 4-0 in game one and 14-4 in game two. SUU improved 13-26, 6-2. Centenary dropped to 23-19, 7-5.
