Thursday's annual member meeting of the Utah Technology Council was technically the first meeting of the organization.

Members of the Utah Information Technology Association officially approved the name change during the meeting, becoming the UTC in a merger with the Utah Life Science Association. Several speakers noted the benefits of the move. UTC Chairman Will West said two of the state's top industry groups "can now speak with one voice."

The conclusion of the meeting featured special recognition for Brian Moss, who was president of the Utah Life Science Association, serving the organization for 10 years.

Others honored by UTC on Thursday were:

• Sen. Al Mansell, R-Sandy, as Legislator of the Year.

• Scott Anderson , president and chief executive officer of Zions Bank, as Trustee of the Year.

• Brian Beutler, president of Alianza Global Communication Services, as Emerging CXO of the Year.

• Thomas Davis of LanDesk as Chief Technology Officer of the Year.

• Josh James of Omniture as Chief Executive Officer of the Year.
