Paula Poundstone, acclaimed comic/writer and regular panelist on National Public Radio's "Wait, Wait . . . Don't Tell Me!" will visit Park City's Eccles Center next weekend.
The award-winning comedienne has a gift for steering clear of dark or offensive topics.
A recipient of an Emmy, Cable ACE and American Comedy Award for best stand-up comic, Poundstone has made appearances on TV shows ranging from "Cybil" to "Sesame Street" and many talks shows in between.
Her highly publicized 2001 arrest, trial and sentencing to rehab and probation are issues she deals with head-on. As a result, she has managed to win fans by dealing with her woes in her signature honest style and with self-effacing humor.
Poundstone is heard on NPR's "Wait, Wait," a weekly hourlong quiz program each Saturday on KUER (FM-90.1) from 11 a.m.-noon. It is also broadcast on KCPW.
Poundstone's visit is sponsored by the Park City Performing Arts Foundation is a nonprofit organization, dedicated to presenting diverse and entertaining performances to the community.
AFTER HOURS DJS What do DJs do after hours? Although they have their own private lives, of course, a new radio-related trend for some DJs may be Radio Parties.
For example, KODJ (FM-94.1) the "superhits of the '60s and '70s" station offers this service for private birthdays, house parties, anniversaries, reunions, school events and other celebrations. So does sister station KZHT (FM-97.1)
For a fee, KODJ can supply a sound system, party lighting, music and even a trained station party host for up to a four-hour show.
According to KODJ personality Rob Boshard, Radio Parties is a private company. "Depending on what people want, we will send out a guy with a sound system, or if people want, we can send jocks out to emcee," Boshard said by e-mail.
KZHT has a "street team" that can entertain at school dances, a "Party Patrol" for weddings, or the "97.1 ZHT Roadshow" for clubs, stores or other businesses.
KODJ and KZHT are Clear Channel stations, but Radio Parties is a division of Ric Hansen Entertainment.
