PRINCESS MARTHA LOUISE OF NORWAY, author of the children's picture book "Why Kings and Queens Don't Wear Crowns," loosely based on her grandfather, King Olav V, will speak about her life as a modern-day princess, Wednesday, 4 p.m., Salt Lake City Main Library, 210 E. 400 South; she will also speak Thursday, 9:45 a.m., de Jong Concert Hall, Brigham Young University; then she will deliver the Harold B. Lee Library Author Lecture, 11 a.m.

GJERTRUD SCHNACKENBERG and DEREK HENDERSON, award-winning poets, will read from their works Thursday, 7 p.m., Art Barn/Finch Lane Gallery (1325 E. 100 South in Reservoir Park). This is the Guest Writers Series, sponsored by U. English department and the Salt Lake City Arts Council.

FRED S. BUCHANAN, U. professor emeritus of education and a Scottish native, will celebrate Tartan Day and deliver the Brown Bag Lecture, "The Mark of the Scots in Utah," Thursday, noon, Utah State Historical Society, 300 S. Rio Grande. (On April 6, 1320, the Declaration of Arbroath was signed by Scotland's leaders. It is considered the equivalent to the U.S. Declaration of Independence.)

TIM FLANNERY, Australian scientist and author of "The Weather Makers: How Man Is Changing the Climate and What It Means for Earth, will discuss his book, Friday, 7 p.m., Salt Lake City Main Library, 210 E. 400 South.
