PROVO Thousands of households in Utah County donated bags of food to support the Scouting for Food Drive Saturday.
Boys and leaders from the Boy Scouts of America collected more than 300,000 pounds of food for the Community Action Food Bank during the annual drive. Food bank officials expect and additional 20,000 pounds of food will come in throughout this week, topping last year's collection of 304,000 pounds.
The non-perishable foods will help feed residents of Utah, Summit and Wasatch counties. Community Action has six food pantries and helps support more than 30 agencies with food, including local senior centers. The Provo food bank alone helps more than 1,500 families each month.
