Historic LDS church in Liberty burns down
Neighbors reported seeing smoke coming from the house at 4086 N. 3500 East about 9:30 a.m. A man in the home got out safely, firefighters said.
"It spread extensively," said Weber Fire District Marshal Ted Black. "They backed out to a defensive mode and the roof caved in. One wall has gone in partially."
Authorities said the building was the first LDS chapel to be built in Liberty. About 15 years ago, it was converted to a single-family dwelling. The building is considered a complete loss. The cause of the fire remained under investigation Friday, but Black said nothing indicated a suspicious cause.
