You mistakenly forgot to withhold Mr. Kyle Phillips name from his brief, ignorant response to an editorial about school breakfast (Readers' Forum, March 21). It clearly states in your rules that "names are withheld only when publication would endanger or seriously embarrass the writer."
As someone who takes advantage of the reduced lunch program, I strongly resent his remarks that parents on the program are drug addicts or mentally ill. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It makes sense for the government to step in. The children, rich or poor, are the future leaders of our country.
By the way, I rarely buy Pop-Tarts for my children. They are too sugary, which is not conducive to learning. We should look to solve the hunger problem in our own communities. The very low wages paid here are ridiculous. Why don't local business pay a decent wage? Then maybe we wouldn't have to have any programs for a free lunch.
