Though many cities may not be excited about a new parking structure, in parking-spot-poor Park City, it calls for a dedication and ribbon cutting. "This may not seem like a big deal, but after 15 years, we're pretty pleased to open this thing," said Myles Rademan, a spokesman for Park City.
The official ceremony for the $5.75 million parking structure is today at 5:30 p.m. The lower three levels of the parking structure opened in February and the top deck opens today. The structure adds 305 spaces for Main Street. The garage, on Swede Alley, now gives the city's National Historic District a total of 1,300 parking spaces, 82 percent of which are free.
Park City hoped to open the garage in time for Sundance Film Festival, when traffic problems increase dramatically because of the hordes of festival goers, but concrete shortages pushed back the opening date.
