Lions dump Harrington

The Detroit Lions parted ways with quarterback Joey Harrington on Monday after four turbulent seasons in which the former third overall draft pick went from franchise savior to fans' scourge.

Coach Rod Marinelli declined to say whether Harrington was released.

"We've made a decision to move on," he said. "At this moment, he's not with us. That's been my decision."

A message left with David Dunn, Harrington's agent, was not immediately returned.

Harrington, drafted No. 3 in 2002, was 18-37 as a starter with the Lions under three coaches: Marty Mornhinweg, Steve Mariucci and Dick Jauron, who took over when Mariucci was fired during the 2005 season.

Harrington started 55 games, throwing for 10,242 yards with 60 touchdowns and 62 interceptions and a mediocre 68.1 passer rating.

He will be replaced by Jon Kitna or Josh McCown, both former starters who agreed to terms in the last week.

RAIDERS SIGN POOLE: The Oakland Raiders signed cornerback Tyrone Poole to a two-year contract Monday to give them added depth in the secondary. Poole, an 11-year NFL veteran, played the past three seasons with the New England Patriots.

DOLPHINS ACQUISITIONS: Cornerback Will Allen signed a $12 million, four-year contract with the Miami Dolphins on Monday after spending the last five seasons with the New York Giants. The Dolphins also signed tight end Justin Peelle to a three-year deal, and added wide receiver Kelly Campbell and defensive tackle Josh Shaw.

CHIEFS RE-SIGN HALL: Kansas City re-signed defensive end Carlos Hall to a one-year contract after his first season with the Chiefs was hampered by injuries. The Chiefs obtained the 6-foot-4, 269-pound Hall in a trade with Tennessee last season in exchange for a fifth-round draft choice in 2005.

PACKERS SIGN HENDERSON: William Henderson will return for a 12th season with the Green Bay Packers, who re-signed the unrestricted free agent Monday.

EAGLES RELEASE QBS: The Eagles released quarterbacks Mike McMahon and Andy Hall on Monday, three days after signing veteran Jeff Garcia as Donavon McNabb's backup.

BILLS AGREE TO SIGN QB NALL: Craig Nall agreed to a three-year contract with Buffalo, believing the Bills will give him the best shot as a backup quarterback. Agent Robb Nelson said Monday he is completing terms of the deal that his client agreed to Sunday.
