Reid Demman wants a promotion, but the only way to reach the top is to run for election.

The current Salt Lake County chief deputy surveyor wants to replace longtime surveyor Vaughn Butler, who decided not to run for re-election after more than 10 years in office.

If elected, Demman said he plans to further Butler's efforts of modernization, accuracy and retrievable mapping information.

As of Tuesday night, no challenger had filed to run against Demman.
