"Greed is good," Michael Douglas' character declared in the movie "Wall Street."

A recent popular HBO series, "Sex and the City," focused on the lustful pursuits of single women in New York.

And across the country, police constantly warn about the consequences when a driver's anger explodes into road rage.

The age-old moral issues raised by the Seven Deadly Sins permeate our culture. But are they considered anything but deadly today? The Deseret Morning News is running a weekly series on the seven sins — lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, anger or wrath, envy and pride — during the Lenten season, an annual time of self-examination.
