As readers in Midvale and West Jordan have commented, Deseret Industries should be welcomed in Draper. And as a Draper resident, I heartily agree. Although our City Council may give a different impression, Draper is home to many down-to-earth residents who would welcome a D.I. thrift store among other reputable commercial establishments.
It is disappointing our City Council chose to deny large thrift stores admittance (although we are grateful for those who did fight against such an ordinance), but please, neighboring communities, do not throw all Draper residents into the same pot of pride: Many of us do not make economic distinctions and then judge accordingly. Just as it is an outrage to label persons as "those" kind of people, don't label all Draper residents as "those" kinds of snobs.
