WEST JORDAN — West Jordan City Councilman Mike Kellermeyer announced this week that he will run for the Utah House of Representatives in November.

Kellermeyer, who is in his first term as a council member, filed his candidacy for House District 38 on Tuesday. The seat, which represents Kearns and parts of West Jordan, is currently held by Republican Eric Hutchings.

Hutchings has filed to run for re-election.

Kellermeyer said he plans to run as an "independent, conservative Democrat."

"This is a state that desperately needs balanced representation, real ethics reform, and a west side that needs a strong voice up on the Hill," Kellermeyer said in a statement issued to the media.
