Utah County Preps of the Week Taylor Russell

Mountain View Bruins

Class: Junior

Sport: Basketball

Position: 6-foot guard

The numbers: Russell is one of those players who likes to toss it up from deep, but when he gets hot he can put on quite a shooting show. In the Bruins' thrilling win over Spanish Fork in the Region 4 finale, Russell hit the game-tying 3-point shot in the final minute. And even though the Bruins lost their tournament-opener against Alta, Russell still had a career game. He made all seven of his field-goal attempts and finished the game five-for-five from behind the 3-point arc en route to a game-high 19 points.

Lindsie Wilson

Orem Tigers

Class: Senior

Sport: Basketball

Position: 6-foot-2 forward

The numbers: Tigers coach Ross Reed said one key to his team winning the state basketball title was the on-court leadership provided by his seniors. Wilson was one of those who led by example and effort. In Orem's quarterfinal win over the top-ranked Murray Spartans, Wilson scored 18 points and pulled down five rebounds. In the semifinal victory over Timpview, Wilson tallied 13 points and had the big assist on the game-tying shot. Her double-digit scoring continued with 10 points in the championship game.
