Romney fueling rumors as he seeks GOP funds

Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney fueled speculation that he may be preparing to run for president when he held a fund-raiser last weekend with some of Utah's big Republican donors.

Romney ran the Salt Lake Olympic Committee and is credited with helping make the 2002 Winter Games a success.

Romney has said he won't run for re-election as Massachusetts governor. A spokesperson at Romney's fund-raising dinner Saturday said it was a private event and that Romney wouldn't be able to comment.

The fund-raiser was held at the Log Haven restaurant in Mill Creek Canyon, according to a copyright story by KUTV Channel 2, a CBS affiliate in Salt Lake City.

"There are two things that need to happen when a candidate decides to run for office: You need to raise money early and you need to get your message out," said Steven Price, who attended the fund-raiser.

Some of those at the event said Romney would face a hurdle in a national election because he is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

"He'll just have to cross each bridge as he comes to it because I'm sure that will be a battle at times," said Drue Price.
