James Ivie, an appraisal supervisor in the assessor's office, is planning to run for Buckley's job.
Every elected position in Salt Lake County, except for the office of mayor, is up for grabs in the November election. Several elected officials plan to seek another term, including Sheriff Aaron Kennard, Clerk Sherrie Swensen, Auditor Sean Thomas, Recorder Gary Ott, Assessor Lee Gardner and Treasurer Larry Richardson.
County Surveyor Von Butler will not run again.
"I've been here long enough," said Butler, who was first elected as surveyor in 1995.
Four seats on the County Council are up for grabs. Incumbents Cort Ashton, Jim Bradley, Joe Hatch and David Wilde are all seeking another term.
In Davis County, Commissioner Dannie McConkie, Clerk/Auditor Steve Rawlings and Sheriff Bud Cox have announced intentions to run. County Recorder Richard Maughan, Surveyor Max Elliott and Treasurer Mark Alton are expected to run.
The filing deadline is March 17 at 5 p.m. If candidates do not file within 10 days, they will have to run as write-in candidates.
