The Daughters of Utah Pioneers will be celebrating cultural diversity by presenting a program on Jane Manning James and Fanny Brooks today at 1:30 p.m. James was an early black pioneer who came to the Salt Lake Valley on Sept. 19, 1847, and settled with her family in a home across the street from what is now the City and County Building. Brooks was the first Jewish woman to settle in Utah territory and told many stories of crossing the plains and living among the Latter-day Saints.
This event is free to the public. It will take place at the Pioneer Memorial Museum, 300 N. Main, in Salt Lake City. Light refreshments will be served.
