Random survey details harmful effects of pornography

Results from a random sample of 332 Utah Valley State College students — 202 men and 122 women — who responded to questions about how pornography addiction has affected them, their families and their friends:

• 64 percent said they've seen adverse effects of pornography on someone close to them.

• 59 percent said porn addiction has caused emotional stress to someone they know.

• 46 percent said porn addiction has negatively affected the self-esteem of someone they know.

• 40 percent said porn addiction has ruined the marriage of someone they know.

• 38 percent said they know a family that has been torn apart by porn addiction.

• 37 percent said they personally have been negatively affected by a porn addict's behavior.

• 30 percent said porn addiction has negatively affected children they know.

• 24 percent of men and 15 percent of women said porn addiction has negatively affected their self-worth.

• 22 percent said porn addiction has negatively affected their family.


NOTE: The scientific survey was conducted by a group of seniors in UVSC's behavioral science program. It has a 4 percent margin of error.
